At the heart of our ministry are the people who have dedicated themselves to serving and building up New Heart Mission Church. After much prayer and preparation, NHMC was planted through the grace of God in Manhasset, NY. The Pastoral staff is made up of 1.5 and 2nd generation Asian-Americans who have lived, worked and worshiped in the NYC area for many years. Brought together by a heart for the 2nd, 3rd and future generations of Asian-American diaspora, the pastoral staff are ever present and available for personal ministry and prayer.
Paul Min Chul Chung graduated from Biblical Theological Seminary in 2002, where he received his Masters of Divinity degree. He became an ordained Pastor commissioned by the Korean Church of Queens, where he had faithfully served as an EM (English Ministry) Pastor for 13 years, while practicing dentistry and raising a family with his wife Ellen. During Paul’s service as a Pastor to the Church, he led many short-term mission trips to China, Ecuador, Russia and Africa, as well as leading and developing Discipleship and Missions training.
By late 2008, God had given Paul a vision to plant a Church in Manhasset, Long Island, to prepare the next generation and build the families, especially focusing on the relationships of 1st-generation immigrant parents with 2nd-generation children. In obedience to this God-given vision to him, Paul took a step of faith and sold his dental practice to go into full-time ministry. Paul, Ellen and their three children, Timothy, Daniel and Elizabeth, have been living in Long Island since 2007, and their dream and aim is to reach out to all the families within their community and bring the Gospel to them.
It is customary for Paul to eat dinner with Ellen and his three children on a daily basis. He also loves to spend time with his family, watch a good basketball or baseball game on television in his spare time with his son Timmy and read good books related to ministry. He also loves to meet with people and counsel them. Upon seeing all his three children graduate from school in the future, Paul plans to retire out on the mission field with Ellen and live out the rest of their lives as a missionary couple, and “fight the good fight, finish the race, and keep the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7)
Pastor Ruth Kim
Associate Pastor
Ruth Kim graduated from Westminster Theological Seminary in 1993, where she immediately served as a Youth Pastor for 7 years, and worked with Rev. Paul Chung, as an Associate Pastor for 8 years for the English ministry of the Korean Church of Queens. Ruth had also served as one of the Board of Directors for the YWCA in Flushing for 10 years. In essence, Ruth has devoted much of her life to pastoral ministry, where she persistently has made an effort to share the Gospel with people.
Ruth loves to meet with people for coffee, listen to them and encourage them, when it counts the most. Ruth has not only served as a Pastor to many young people, but also as a mother-like figure, who sincerely loves and cares for their well-being. This has been made possible only through the grace, mercy and love, which God has revealed to her.
Ruth believes that God will continue to do great and mighty things with the families of the next generation whom she has devoted most of her life to. She has also committed to serving as a missionary in the near future, where her life would be an example to the next generation of what it means to live for Christ.
Reverend Hail David Yi
Associate Pastor
Hail has had the blessed opportunity to grow and experience life in many different places. He was born in South Korea, raised in Canada and lived in several different places in the Northeast United States, before planting roots most recently in New Jersey. Hail graduated from Biblical Theological Seminary in 2005, and became an ordained minister through the Presbytery Church in America (PCA) in 2007. He currently lives in New Jersey with his wife, Yoomi, and his two sons, Daniel and Jonathan, who are twin siblings. Hail believes in a family that takes great effort and commitment to each other, especially with God as the core.
Hail has served as an EM (English Ministry) Pastor in several Korean-American Churches including All Nations Mission Church, Gospel Presbyterian Church, Hansung Presbyterian Church and finally, the Korean Central Church of New York in Long Island City before God brought him together with New Heart MIssion Church. Interestingly, Hail’s hobbies, such as fishing, fixing broken things and gardening are related to his life as a Christian and an EM Pastor. He has become a fisher of men, helps broken people to restore their relationship with God and loves to plant God-loving seeds in people, watching them grow and transform into the likeness of Christ.
Hail has been on several mission trips to Africa with Rev. Paul Chung, where they have worked together with missionaries in spreading the Gospel. On a volunteer basis, Hail reaches out to palliative care patients and their families, while giving clinical pastoral care at hospices and hospitals.
